February 16 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Russell Kimes, New Canaan’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Director, will speak to the New Canaan Men’s Club at its February 16th meeting about the role of Emergency Management, both nationally and in New Canaan. Kimes, who took on the position in 2020, will describe the office’s leadership team and how it responds to various hazards and threats affecting the town and the region.
The club meets at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, at 10 a.m. Kimes’s presentation is expected to begin around 10:40 a.m., following the club’s business portion of the meeting.
OEM plans and prepares for potential emergencies caused by severe weather, power outages, transportation accidents, water failures and flooding. While those may be most well-known contingencies, it also prepares for demonstrations, earthquakes, infrastructure failures, among other potential disruptions. It also works to coordinate response and recovery efforts with state resources and communicates conditions to the public.
Kimes also serves as assistant chief of the New Canaan Fire Department and before being named to head Emergency Management was vice president, Human Resources Data Governance at Morgan Stanley.
The Men’s Club has openings for new members, men 55-years old and above. For information, email ncmens@ncmens.info.
