What’s the Big Deal about Mid-Century Architecture

Thursday, October, 26, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

New Canaan is filled with some of the best examples of Mid-Century Modern architecture. But that was 60-70 ago and architecture has certainly moved on. Frederick Noyes will discuss why we keep going back to look at this period, why it was so important—and where we go from here. The lecture is free and open to all.

Frederick Noyes, FAIA, has spent his professional life immersed in his passions of
architecture, biology, and education. He trained at Harvard: an AB in biology (1966), and a M.Arch from the Graduate School of Design (1972). He was elected to the AIA College of Fellows (2001) and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Education from the Boston
Architectural College (BAC) in 2007.

Mr. Noyes was raised in New Canaan, Connecticut, where he was weaned on the
influences of the first generation of great modern architects Marcel Breuer, Philip Johnson, and his father, Eliot Noyes. He has run his own architectural firm for over 40 years designing everything from houses and hospitals.
