NEW CANAAN – The 2013 FCIAC and State Champion New Canaan Rams football team added yet another title, as they were named to the 9th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions.
The honor is an exclusive one, as only 50 teams were invited to the Tour out of almost 17,000 participants throughout the country. In order to qualify, teams had to be both nationally ranked and state champions.
New Canaan’s 44-12 win over Darien in the Class L title game gave the Rams a measure of payback against the only team to have defeated them this season. It also re-affirmed the 2013 squad’s status as the most-dominant team in the state, and perhaps in school history. The Rams completed the season having outscored their opponents 654-207 en route to a 14-1 record, becoming the first ever New Canaan team to win that many games.
The Rams football team will be honored during halftime of Tuesday night’s home boys basketball game against Bridgeport Central. Tipoff for the contest is scheduled for 7pm.
