A New Canaan Gulf worker on Feb. 1 reported to police that a man who had “borrowed” jumper cables from the station, saying he needed to jumpstart his car, made off with the equipment.
At about 7:09 p.m., according to the Gulf employee, a Hispanic man with black hair and tan pants driving a white Nissan Maxima entered the station asking whether he could purchase jumper cables to start car, police said. The Gulf worker was told the vehicle was just a short distance away, police said. He decided to let the stranger borrow the cables, and the latter never returned, according to a police report.
The equipment was reported to be worth $400, police said.

A 60-year-old Seminary Street woman says she’s missing jewelry following what appears to be a burglary on Jan. 30, police said.

Some time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the woman’s home was broken into and rummaged through, according to police. They received a call about the findings at 5:26 p.m., according to Ogrinc.
Upon returning to her residence at the end of the day, the woman saw someone had been there, forcing entry through a door and pulling out drawers in the bedroom, police said. Police do not yet have an inventory of all that is missing, Ogrinc said. The investigation is ongoing.

A 40-year-old Vitti Street woman told police that a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from her home some time between 7 p.m. on Jan. 30 and 7 a.m. the next day.
The black-and-red vehicle went missing from the woman’s driveway, police said. She phoned authorities at 7:21 a.m. on Jan. 31 to report the larceny, police said.
