Police late Sunday afternoon arrested a 52-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with driving under the influence.
At about 4:24 p.m. on April 16, officers were dispatched to the area of South Avenue and Cherry Street on a report of a motorist in a gray Jeep driving erratically, police said.
They stopped the car on Elm Street, according to a police report.
The motorist, a Logan Road resident, showed signs of intoxication during the stop, the report said.
He failed field sobriety tests and later tested for a blood-alcohol level of .27, it said—more than three times the legal limit.
Police additionally charged him with operating without a license.
He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear April 28 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
