The New Canaan Building Department on July 10 received an application to construct a new home on a .47-acre on Orchard Lane nearly five times the size of the Cape Cod-style house that had stood there since 1947.

The house planned for 16 Orchard Lane includes 6,043 square feet of living space, five bedrooms, two full bathrooms and two half baths, according to the building permit application.
It will include a total of 13 rooms and will cost about $1 million to build, the application said.
The Cape that had stood there was demolished in May, according to town building records.
The property itself had been purchased in February for $850,000, tax records show.
The new home is to be built by New Canaan-based RR Builders, with specs by Cole Harris Associates of Westport.
