Power Restored to New Canaan; Nine Remaining Roads with Downed Wires [UPDATE]

Power has been restored to all but 72 New Canaan homes as of Friday night, and police reported just a handful of remaining partial road closures, including some new problems to address, such as a broken utility pole on Cascade Road (see table below).

The wind storm that struck New Canaan and the region late Wednesday knocked power out of more than 1,000 homes in town at its peak. Emergency responders worked around-the-clock as trees and branches fell onto utility wires, sending them dangerously into the street, causing some fires and blocking roads to such an extent that district administrators were forced to cancel school.

New Canaan’s hard-working, all-volunteer Office of Emergency Management jumped into action, urging residents through mass texts, emails and phone calls to stay off of the roads and report outages directly to Eversource.
