New Canaan Police, Fire and EMS could be seen responding to the incident at approximately 7:30 a.m. Eyewitnesses say two people, including a child, appeared to be treated on-scene following the single-car crash. The involved vehicle, a dark-colored SUV, appeared to skid down Richmond Hill and strike a pole at the crossing, according to eyewitnesses.

The train company posted a bulletin at 8:07 a.m. saying, “Metro North is now running limited trains and may have additional service suspensions as the accident is cleared at Richmond Hill Road and repairs are made to the crossing.”

New Canaan and area roads are especially slick following a blizzard that struck the town Sunday into Monday, and then more snow on Wednesday morning amid cold temperatures. The National Weather Service issued a “Special Weather Statement” for the area, noting that up to two inches of new snow was possible that “may briefly reduce visibilities, and coupled with areas of black ice, could result in hazardous travel conditions for the morning commute.”
