Police are investigating the vandalizing of mailbox on Marshall Ridge Road, reported at 9:21 p.m. Saturday.
A 49-year-old New Canaan man called in the destroyed post and mailbox, both found on the lawn with damages estimated at $700, according to a police report.
Kids could be scattering from the area after the incident, police said.

An unlocked motor vehicle parked in a Main Street driveway was illegally entered and a purse stolen from inside, police said.
Some time overnight from Nov. 5 to 6, someone entered the card and took a debit card, bank card, several credit cards, license and GPS system, according to a police report.
The owner of the purse cancelled the credit cards but already a charge of $361 had been assessed to one of them (in Derby, Conn.) and four charges had been assessed to the debit card, totaling $269, police said.
They’re investigating.

A jewelry box with several pairs of glass cufflinks and tie clips was reported stolen from a Parish Road South home at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 (last Thursday) after a home alarm alerted authorities to the residence.
Arriving, police found a front door forced open and it appeared that the master bedroom had been rifled through, with drawers pulled open, according to a police report.
Police are investigating.

Police released more information on the passing of a fake $2 bill in New Canaan.
It happened at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 2, when a white male roughly 18 to 20 years old paid for chewing tobacco at a downtown business with a real $5 bill and a fake $2 bill.
Police are looking at video surveillance.
The suspect is described as having brown hair, wearing a blue zip-up fleece, white undershirt, blue plaid shorts and brown slippers. He was walking a small white dog, police say.
