Police after midnight Monday arrested a 19-year-old New Canaan man who fled police downtown, crashed his vehicle at the Nature Center and then ran into the woods on foot.
At about 11:50 p.m. on Jan. 5, an officer on patrol tried to stop the vehicle after seeing it had no front market plate while traveling northbound on Park Street, according to a police report.
The teen failed to obey the officer’s signal to pull over and ultimately pulled into the New Canaan Nature Center parking lot, the report said.
There, he crashed into an unoccupied parked car and then ran into the woods, it said.
Police found his passport in the abandoned vehicle—which had his home address on Rippowam Road—as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the report said.
He was found at his home—about three miles away—and arrested at 1:15 a.m. Monday.
He was charged with evading responsibility, disobeying the signal of an officer, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, engaging police in pursuit and failure to display a number plate.
Police additionally cited the teen for possession fo less than .5 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Police released the teen on $500 bond and scheduled him to appear Jan. 17 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
