Although summer is near its halfway point, there’s always time to pick up a book to keep us busy. New Canaan’s own public library has put together a fantastic list of page turners for you to stick your nose in whether your tanning on the beach or snuggling up on your couch. We asked Manager of Adult Services Christle Chumney to recommend some popular summer reads. Here are her top-six great reads of the season, with a little information on each one.

the bridge ladies1. “The Bridge Ladies” by Betsy Lerner

“A new mystery called The Bridge Ladies, by Betsy Lerner, is a multi-generational novel. It has a 40ish woman and she goes home to take care of her mother who is ailing. Then she goes to participate in her mother’s place at her weekly bridge club where she learns about her mom and her life and their relationship as a whole.” — Christle Chumney

falling2. “Falling” by Jane Green

“Falling is a harken back to the relationships of her earlier books and a tale of someone finding themselves, so I think this would be nice for readers who have enjoyed some of her earlier publications like Jemima J and Mr. Maybe.” — Christle Chumney

the no. 1 ladies detective agency3. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith

“The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith is a mystery that takes place in South Africa. It’s actually really interesting on audiobook because the narrator has an accent so it’s quite beautiful and interesting to listen to.”— Christle Chumney

One-Plus-One4. “One Plus One” by Jojo Moyes

“One Plus One has been one of our top picks for quite some time now so I would definitely include that, people have really loved this and we’ve gotten some great feedback.”— Christle Chumney

personal- jack reacher5. “Personal: A Jack Reacher Novel” by Lee Child

“Personal is the most recent of the Jack Reacher series and the author, Lee Child is very popular across the board and is known especially for Jack Reacher, so that’s a great one.”— Christle Chumney

the murder house6. “The Murder House” by James Patterson

“The Murder House is another mystery but takes place in the Hamptons so that may be timely for the summer. This is , like most other Patterson’s, an easy book to pick up with a lower entry point as far as characters but still has plenty of complexity necessary for another great Patterson mystery.”— Christle Chumney
