PHOTOS: Dog Days New Canaan at Pet Pantry

Scores of humans and leashed dogs descended on the parking lot out front of Pet Pantry Warehouse on Grove Street throughout a cloudless, breezy Sunday afternoon for the 8th annual Dog Days New Canaan fundraiser. Benefitting Adopt-a-Dog and Strays & Others, the event saw owners and their pets participate in “musical sits” and a “pooch pie eating” contest, visit 28 booths featuring dog food and treat vendors, trainers, photographers and veterinary practices while snacking on ice cream and Panini from food trucks. “We’re so thankful for the turnout,” Pet Pantry Vice President Adam Jacobson said. “The community at large for supporting these types of events, for Adopt-a-Dog and Strays & Others, to be able to raise awareness, for animals in need. We are grateful for our sponsors—Weruva, New Canaan Vet, Bankwell, and all the other food sponsors that are here today.

PHOTOS: Pets and Pet-Lovers Hit Dog Days New Canaan At Pet Pantry

Hundreds of leash-wielding New Canaan and area animal lovers descended on the parking lot at Pet Pantry on Grove Street on Sunday for a dog-friendly event that’s become a hugely popular spring tradition downtown. Less than halfway through the 7th Annual New Canaan Dog Days, an estimated 500-plus dog-lovers had visited the merchant tents, signed their four-legged family members up for contests, sampled free ice cream from Baskin Robbins and enjoyed the music of New Canaan School of Rock, one of its organizers said. As it did for Caffeine & Carburetors at Waveny in the morning, the weather held out for Dog Days, said Adam Jacobson, executive vice president of Pet Pantry New Canaan. The event is expected to raise “thousands upon thousands of dollars” for Adopt-A-Dog as well as Strays & Others, Jacobson said. “We have great support from our vendor partners,” including New Canaan Veterinary Hospital, he said.

For the first time since his election to the office in 1994, Cody this time faced a challenger for the position, from fellow New Canaanite Bernard Simpkin.

Meet Allyson Halm: New Canaan’s New Animal Control Officer

New Canaan Animal Control recently brought on a new officer, Allyson Halm. Born and raised in Greenwich, Halm is familiar with the Fairfield County and New Canaan area. Before joining the staff in New Canaan, Halm worked with Greenwich Animal Control for 12 years, then became the CEO of Adopt-A-Dog of Greenwich for seven years. Halm is excited to take on the position at New Canaan’s Animal Control. Here’s our exchange.
