Baldanza Café To Reopen on Forest Street

By Michael Dinan | December 7, 2020

Months after closing their downtown New Canaan location, the owners of a local restaurant known for using fresh organic ingredients are planning to reopen on Forest Street, according to a sign in the building’s window. Baldanza Café is “opening soon” at 21 Forest St., according to the sign. The commercial space, part of the Heritage Square condominium development, has been vacant since Embody Fitness Gourmet closed in January. Originally located at the back of the alley at the bottom of Elm Street, near Main, Baldanaza two years ago moved to 129 Elm St., then closed in April.

Owners Sandy and Angela Baldanza said at the time that they were working on reopening here in a different space, and kept their Darien location open. It’s unclear just when they hope to reopen.

Baldanza on Elm Street Closes

By Michael Dinan | April 19, 2020

Elm Street restaurant Baldanza Café has closed, officials said in a press release issued Friday. Originally located up the alley down toward the intersection at Main Street, Baldanza in September 2018 moved to 129 Elm St., formerly the location of Chef Luis restaurant. The restaurant offered a seasonal menu of organic food. “[N]egotiations are already underway for Baldanza Café to re-open in a new downtown location this summer,” the press release said. In the meantime, owners Sandy and Angela Baldanza are keeping their location in Darien open, and New Canaan is among the towns it delivers to, it said.

New Canaan Restaurants: Summer Theatre Partnership Helped Business

By Olivia Oldham | July 30, 2019

The owners of local restaurants that partnered with a theater group that performed in downtown New Canaan through July said the effect on business was largely positive. Angela Baldanza, co-owner of and chef at Baldanza Café, described the restaurant’s partnership with the Summer Theatre of New Canaan as “a very positive experience.” She said that many diners had come into the restaurant to take advantage of a special fixed-price menu, and that she “would do it again.” Asked whether the theater’s impact was noticeably different from previous years, when it had been located further away from the downtown area, Baldanza said “definitely.”

Previously located in Waveny, STONC on Sunday finished its final show on New Canaan Library’s property. The organization partnered this year with a number of local restaurants, which offered special deals for theatergoers.
