Two shop front units in the new “Heritage Square” condominium complex on Forest Street sold for a combined $2.9 million this week. The street-level commercial spaces are occupied by Embody Fitness Gourmet and Pet Valu. According to a property transfer recorded Tuesday in the Town Clerk’s office, a newly formed company called ‘Connor Rose Realty Inc.’ purchased the units from Forest Street Properties, builder Chris Gatto’s company. An Upper East Side man, Patrick Mitchell, is listed in Connecticut Secretary of the State records as principal of the new property owner. ***

New Canaan Chamber Of Commerce Announces 12th Annual Holiday Stroll

The 12th Annual Holiday Stroll, presented by the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, will be held in the village center from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. As is the tradition of this highly anticipated, free kick-off to the holiday season in New Canaan, Friday evening will feature the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, who will help us officially kick off the holiday season! Residents of all ages and backgrounds gather on New Canaan’s Elm Street, which is closed to traffic, to enjoy the festivities: singing Christmas carols and enjoying musical performances by the Students of the Studio, Performing Arts Conservatory, The New Canaan Dance Academy, Saxe Saxaphones and the Magical Music Singers.

The Planning & Zoning Commission during a special meeting on Monday night reviewed some 65 yet-to-be-released conditions that it is considering as part of an approval for the closely followed Merritt Village proposal. Though still in draft form and therefore not public, the approval P&Z discussed appears to land on 105 total units at the proposed development. The specter of an affordable housing application looms over the project, should property owner M2 Partners and the town fail to reach a compromise. During an interview after the P&Z meeting, New Canaan resident and would-be Merritt Village builder Arnold Karp said he and his partners “have sat through six months of hearings.”

“We went from 160 to 140 to 123 to 116 to get 105? That doesn’t sit that well with myself or my partners, because it’s way too arbitrary and capricious,” Karp told NewCanaanite.com.

Bankwell in New Canaan presents Free Back-to-Back Seminars on 529 College Savings Plans and Social Security Updates

As part of an ongoing effort to provide value to the community, Bankwell in New Canaan will host two free back-to-back seminars on Thursday, November 10th at the bank’s 208 Elm St. branch. The seminars will be presented by Dave Piersol, a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones in Darien. The first seminar, themed “College: Getting There from Here,” is designed to help parents and/or grandparents establish a college savings goal for a child and strategies to help achieve the goal with the features and benefits of 529 College Savings Plans. The seminar will run from 10:30-11:30 and refreshments will be provided.

Police received a report on Tuesday that a 9-year-old Wheaten terrier who is new to town breached an invisible fence installed by his owners and attacked a leashed chocolate Labrador retriever puppy walking past. It happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of Orchard Drive and Douglas Road, and the 8-month-old puppy received a gash and punctures to his groin area. No citations or criminal charges were brought, according to the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section. Both dogs are neutered males and are up-to-date on shots, officials said. ***
