New Norwalk Road Man, 45, Arrested After Trying To Break Down Bedroom Door

Police arrested a 45-year-old New Norwalk Road man before dawn Sunday after reports that he tried to break down a bedroom door following an argument with a woman there. At about 12:37 a.m., officers dispatched to the home also learned through their investigation that the man had grabbed the woman’s arm and pushed her to the floor, according to a police report. He was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief. Police described the incident as a domestic matter. The man was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Arrests: Domestic Violence, Pot Citation

Police arrested a 73-year-old North Wilton Road man Sunday evening after he pushed someone in the parking lot at East School during a dispute. The incident occurred at about 7:38 p.m. and the victim suffered an abrasion, according to a police report. He was charged with disorderly conduct and promised to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk. ***

Police cited a 17-year-old for minor drug offenses Friday evening after finding a small amount of pot and smoking gear in the car he was driving. At about 6:58 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle parked suspiciously near the end of a driveway on Putnam Road, according to a police report.

Campus Sexual Assault Safety Tips Highlighted at New Canaan Briefing

High school students set to leave for college in the fall on Monday received expert counsel on ways to stay safe in the face of sexual assault. At the second annual “Know Before You Go” press conference, New Canaan’s rising college freshman were advised on precautions that need to be taken as they set out on their own. Margie Hahn, a New Canaan resident and rising Junior at Villanova University, provided these important tips on what every college student should know at the briefing, held in the Training Room at the New Canaan Police Department:

Supportive friends that you feel safe approaching when you are in an uncomfortable situation. Easy access to the phone number of a school counselor, as well as your RA (Room Advisor). A safe word. Margie stated that she has a “safe word” with both her parents and her friends that acts as an “SOS” signal that she could discretely text to them if in trouble.

Police: New Canaan Man, 30, Threatens to Slash Ex’s Tires, Burn Her House and Beat Up Her Brother

Police on April 21 arrested a 30-year-old New Canaan man after he threatened to slash his ex-girlfriend’s tires, beat up her brother and set her house on fire if she didn’t pay back money he owed, and then showed up at her home with a knife. The complainant, a 31-year-old Millport Avenue woman, told police at about 9:14 p.m. on April 21 that earlier in the day, her ex had phoned and said she owed him money, according to a police report. The woman said she was at work just then and would talk to him about it later as long as he was calm, the report said. The ex-boyfriend responded that he just needed the money and that if he didn’t get it, he’d slash her tires and her mother’s tires, set her house on fire and beat up her brother, the report said. When she got home at about 6:30 p.m., the ex was waiting in the parking lot with a knife in his hand, and again threatened to slash her tires, the report said.

Police Arrest Ex-Boyfriend after He Strikes, Burns New Canaan Woman

Police arrested a 59-year-old Stamford man by warrant after his ex-girlfriend told authorities he came to her house, struck her in the eye and burned her arm. On the afternoon of April 19, the 54-year-old Lockwood Avenue woman said, the ex-boyfriend showed up unexpectedly at the woman’s after a three-month absence, according to a police report. She opened the door to him when he made a pretext of having her sign over a title on a motor vehicle, the report said. He struck her in the eye, and then inside her home, he took a pot of boiling water off the stove and, while holding her down, burned her arm with the pot, the report said. Police saw marks consistent with her story, the report said.
