The Summer Internship Program is sponsored by the New Canaan Racquet Club. More than 5,000 in New Canaan lost power Wednesday around midday after a problem at one of Eversource utility’s substations caused a town-wide blackout, officials say. In a 1 p.m. update, Emergency Management Director Russ Kimes said Eversource reported that problems at the utility company’s substation caused the outage, affecting 5,302 customers—about 61% of households in town. “Eversource reports that crews are already on site working to fix the issue,” Kimes said. “They have not provided an estimated time for restoration.”
The next town hall to discuss recent events (e.g., court mandated inpatient escapee with history of violence) in connection with Silver Hill Hospital and the community, and Silver Hill’s proposed increased security measures, will be held on Wednesday, March 26th, 6:30-8pm at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, 23 Park St, New Canaan, in the main meeting house/church space.
Saying users sometimes swap access codes, town officials on Tuesday approved a request to install a new lock system at Waveny’s dog park. The Board of Selectman during its regular meeting approved a contract with a Brookfield-based company to replace the old four-digit-code method of getting into Spencer’s Run. First Selectman Dionna Carlson and Selectmen Steve Karl and Amy Murphy Carroll voted 3-0 in favor of the $12,500 contract with United Alarm Services Inc., following a request from the Parks & Recreation Department. The new access control system is complete with key fobs that allow for dog-owners to enter and enjoy the park, according to Parks and Recreation Director John Howe. Although the old system had been in place for many years, issues began to arise, he said at the meeting, held at Town Hall and via videoconference.
