The New Canaan U9 Girls Black team scored another win in a back-and-forth thriller that started out in a downpour of rain and ended in a sunny win for the girls. New Canaan struck first when Charlotte Walter went unassisted in a superb goal. Halfway into the first half Walter pushed a pass out of traffic in front of the Wilton net to Lily Magliacano who struck it home for a 2-0 New Canaan lead. Wilton got one back before the end of the half to make the halftime score 2-1 New Canaan in the lead. Wilton would score first in the second half to tie it up at the 7-minute mark.

New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team Shuts Out Darien 1-0

The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team posted their third shutout of the season when they beat their rival the Darien Blue team on Sunday. On an unusually hot day in Darien, the Red and the Blue faced off for what turned out to be a scorcher of a game. The first half of the game was a true battle for possession of the ball and field position. The New Canaan defense formed an impenetrable force to be reckoned with. Defensive players Kate Caione and Ava Gizzie shut down the Darien pressure by continually running down the Darien offense and turning the play around back up the field.

NC Girls U9 Red Defeat Westport White 5-3

It was a gorgeous Mother’s Day, and the NC Girls U9 Red players were determined to notch another victory, and give their moms one more thing to celebrate. The Red exploded from the start when Kelly Polacek connected with Lexie Tully, who fired a hard shot into the corner of the goal. Fiona Mueller scored next on a masterful break down the middle and delivered a line drive past Westport’s goalie. Despite a stellar defensive effort led by Devon Russell and Kathryn Norton, Westport managed to tally two late goals to tie the score at 2-2 at the end of the first half. In the second half both teams came out gunning for the win, but the NC Red proved to be stronger.

Youth Soccer Roundup: Weekend Wins for U9 Boys Red, U10 Girls Red Soccer Teams

The U9 boys Red Team came out extremely strong against top players in their age group this past Sunday when they defeated Wilton 6-3. After falling behind Wilton 2-0 early, Jack Cuda received a skillfully passed ball by Ethan Schubert and Teddy Hoffstein to put New Canaan on the scoreboard. This was the start of New Canaan’s offense keeping the Wilton goalie busy with two shots by Benjamin Bilden, two by Augusto Baldini and another by Jack Cuda to give New Canaan a soaring lead. The strong New Canaan defense made up of Max Lowe, Cole WIlson, Jaden Oyekanmi, Ted Werner and goalkeeper Teddy Balkind displayed impressive pressure to not allow Wilton to catch up. The boys have moved up two levels this season to play in the highest division for their age.

The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team Extinguishes the Flames

The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team got their first victory of the season when they defeated the Greenwich Flames on Sunday. The game took place in New Canaan on a chilly, overcast day. The Red Team came out strong in the first half by controlling possession of the ball and pressuring the Greenwich defense. All the action was in the Greenwich end when Ava Gizzie blasted an unstoppable shot to put the Red Team on the board with a 1-0 lead. Nola Kammerer was tending the goal and with the help of a tight defense held the Greenwich team to a scoreless first half.
