New Canaan’s U11 Girls Red to Battle Middlebury FC in CT Cup Championship

From a field of 66 teams in the CT Cup’s U11 age group, only four remained this past weekend to square off in two semi-final games. Playing at home Saturday in front of a large crowd, New Canaan’s U11 Girls Red soccer team faced Ridgefield Black to determine who would be heading to the finals from their side of the bracket. In their most impressive victory this season, New Canaan defeated Ridgefield by a score of 2-0, earning them a trip to the CT Cup finals on Saturday, Nov. 1st, in Farmington.

Senior Night: State Tournament-Bound NCHS Soccer Team Plays Final Regular Season Game

Lisa O’Rourke’s son Jack, a senior captain of last year’s New Canaan High School varsity soccer team, had been on the side that won states as a freshman. This year, her son Ted is a tri-captain on the same team, and what a bookend it would be to see the state tournament-qualifying squad win that title again this season. If the Rams have a secret weapon headed into the CIAC tourney, it may be their chemistry: Most of the 17 seniors on the team have been playing soccer together with the New Canaan Soccer Association since their youth travel days. “They’re together in school and on the field and they really don’t need to look where they are,” O’Rourke said Wednesday from the stands at Dunning Field on Senior Night, moments before the Rams squared off for their final regular season game against Stamford High School. “They know where they are with respect to passing.

The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team Continue to Win

The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team improved to 5-1 when the girls defeated the New Milford G team on Sunday, Oct. 19. Although the day was windy and cool, the Red Team came to play and “brought the heat.”

The game began as mainly a defensive battle. The New Canaan offense made multiple scoring attempts but was unable to find the goal in the face of a tough New Milford defense and goalkeeper.

Football: New Canaan Black 7 Support Childhood Cancer Program

New Canaan 7 Black recently took up a collection to support Circle of Care, for the organization’s Bags of Love program. Following a child’s cancer diagnosis, families are immediately sent to the hospital to begin treatment procedures, most of which require hospitalization. Often, parents don’t even have time to grab a toothbrush, let alone their child’s favorite thing to comfort them. While Circle of Care works with children and families in a number of ways to directly support them during their cancer treatment, their Bags of Love help meet the immediate needs of newly diagnosed children as soon as they reach the hospital—it’s one of the first things waiting for them, to let them know they’re not alone, and to offer them some practical support. The collection drive NC 7 Black helped them fill those bags with much-needed items. Find out more about Circle of Care here.

New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team Weathers the Storm vs. Stamford

The Stamford Hurricane girls rolled into New Canaan looking to extend their undefeated season, but were reduced to a mere tropical storm Sunday by the New Canaan squad. The New Canaan Soccer Girls U10 Red Team extended its season record by notching a 4-1 victory. The game opened with an even exchange of offense and defense, but the momentum shifted toward the New Canaan side.
