‘It Was Extremely Hot Out So I Ran into Starbucks’: Parking Ticket Appeals

The Parking Commission recently received the following written appeals from ticketed motorists. ***

“This is my vehicle that is parked in front of my house, which we have owned for over 40 years. Since we don’t have a ‘drive-in’ paved driveway, we park in front partly off the pavement, as indicated by the induced photo. The front of the house is our driveway, essentially. Over the 40+ years of both residing and renting out this house, we have occasionally parked driver-side-in depending on which way we arrived and which end of the car needed access for loading.

‘I Would Never Ever Park in a Handicap Space’: Parking Ticket Appeals 

Ticketed motorists submitted the following appeals recently to the New Canaan Parking Commission. ***

“Greetings. I’m a 16 year resident of New Canaan and have paid my share of parking tickets, but I am appealing this specific parking ticket. After catering a party, Rosie’s had requested that I return a set of string lights to their restaurant. I parked my car just before the white pillars, tucked in to the space just ahead of the restaurant, put on my hazard lights and quickly carried the string of lights in to the restaurant.

Ticketed motorists and their spouses submitted the following appeals recently to the New Canaan Parking Commission. ***

“I feel I shouldn’t receive this ticket as there is no sign.”

—$30 for parking on the grass on Millport Ave., at 2:17 p.m. on April 20 (New Canaan resident)

“I tried to use my credit card in both directions and the machine would not accept it. I even asked a passerby to help me but it still didn’t work!”

—$25 for unpaid space in the Park Street Lot, at 12:44 p.m. on April 7 (Bedford, N.Y.)

“I came in to drop a check off to Vicki at Stone Techniques which is right behind the pay meter/box. The 15 min spots were full, so I parked around the back of the road (Cherry St). By the time I returned after handing Vicki the check I had a ticket.

‘A Woman Walked By and Told Me That Parking Was Free’: Parking Ticket Appeals

Ticketed motorists and their spouses submitted the following appeals recently to the New Canaan Parking Commission. ***

“I parked my car there for a few minutes to run a quick errand and I was under the impression that parking was free on the weekend. I apologize for this unintended violation on my part. I have lived in New Canaan for 14 years and have never had a parking violation until today, and I very much appreciate your consideration of my appeal.”

—$25 for unpaid space in Morse Court, at 9:32 a.m. on March 27 (New Canaan resident)

“My wife Melanie was in town on Saturday with our twin daughters and she parked in the lot across from Spiga and she received a $25 ticket. She did not pay the meter because she was unaware that you had to pay on Saturdays because before during the peak of Covid it was free.

‘The Doctor Was Running Late That Day’: Parking Ticket Appeals

Ticketed motorists submitted the following appeals recently to the New Canaan Parking Commission. ***

“My taillight was where the handicap sign started. There are pictures I have that prove the taillight is where the sign was. Majority of my car is in the 2-hr parking zone well within where I should be. I just started working again and cannot afford this ticket.”
