St. Michael’s Gives Thanks

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church on 5 Oenoke Ridge will host a Community Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Community Baptist Church and the United Methodist Church of New Canaan. The service will include hymn singing, readings, and prayer, and will feature special music by the combined choir under the direction of St. Michael’s Music Director Dr. Alla Borzova. Food offerings and monetary donations collected at this service will be given to support the Community Food Pantry of New Canaan.

Construction Workers Only: Town Inks Parking Deal with Historical Society, St. Michael’s

In what town officials are calling a definitive step toward solving emerging downtown parking concerns, New Canaan is poised to secure 20 spaces in the lot behind the Historical Society for construction workers. Those spots will be specially permitted for and used exclusively by construction workers at Town Hall and the fire station, helping to relieve some problems of space availability for parking permit-holders in the Locust Avenue lot, First Selectman Rob Mallozzi said. Though some i’s need dotting and t’s crossing, the agreement should be finalized in time to take hold next week, he said. Prompted by safety concerns from a popular preschool, town officials are contemplating how to slow down motorists zipping along Oenoke Ridge at the turn near God’s Acre. Toddlertime Nursery School operates out of space behind the Congregational Church of New Canaan. At drop-off and pickup times, parents either pull off of Oenoke and park street-side at the top of the hill—in front of the church—or pull into a lot behind the church that lets out onto Oenoke opposite the Historical Society (the lot operates with one-way traffic flow). At the most recent meeting of a group of public works, police and fire officials that fields residents’ requests for traffic calming, Toddlertime co-owner Barbara Davis said the preschool faces two challenges. First, there’s no safe way to walk across Oenoke—for example, if a group of preschoolers are headed for a field trip to the New Canaan Nature Center, or if there’s a parent walking a child across Oenoke from a program at St.
