Teriyaki East, the Asian fusion restaurant that opened this spring on East Avenue, has closed, according to its owner.
Rafael Marin, the chef/owner of La Pescaderia, the popular Venezuelan seafood market and restaurant next door, said he came to a point where he wanted to focus on the existing business rather than both.
The Asian fusion restaurant closed Nov. 2, he said. Marin said he’s now selling its assets to restaurateurs.
“I tried something different and we appreciate our patrons at Teriyaki East—unfortunately, I cannot run both businesses at the same time,” Marin said. “I prefer to focus on the quality of the food at La Pescaderia.”
It’s been highly rated in New Canaan.
La Pescaderia opened in 2017 and has become a favorite destination for locals seeking its signature arepas.
“You can do arepas, fresh rice bowls and buy fish to cook at home, raw fish,” Marin said of the offerings at 53 East Ave.
