‘The Idea is That People Can Have It All in One Place’; Addition to Oxygen Fitness Opens this Fall

When Oxygen Fitness opened its doors a little over four years ago, its mission was simple; to create a one stop shop for health and fitness. Offering everything from CrossFit to boxing to spin, Oxygen has something for everybody.

With a new addition due to open in the coming months, owners Sara and David Koch and Rich Fedeli aim to allow space for every type of class.

When will the new studio open? “My term is ‘fall-ish’,” Sara Koch said with a laugh. Located at 121 Park St., the space will be adjacent to Oxygen’s main building, and will be referred to as the “studiO.”

Though an official opening has yet to be set, the studiO will become home to two brand new studios; one dedicated exclusively to yoga classes, and the other to barre.

“Currently, yoga and barre share the same studio,” Sara Koch said. “And we found that neither could have a full schedule. People who wanted to come for barre or come to yoga exclusively, it was hard for them to find all the classes.”

Though the studiO has a different name, it is meant for use by members of Oxygen, as well as those wishing to pay on a class-by-class basis.

Explaining the decision to focus on yoga and barre, Koch said, “When people come to us, they really want that specialized experience as far as studios go. We definitely have that in terms of instructors, but we want to provide the environment as well. It is important to us to expand our brand and become a sort of fitness destination in New Canaan.”

In another measure to expand services to members, Oxygen recently launched a partnership with local cycling chain JoyRide. “We are partnering with a likeminded brand,” Koch said of JoyRide, which is now running classes out of Oxygen’s cycling studio, “Our hope is that we could make it more of a permanent fixture, so we can have full cycling, yoga, and barre.”

Koch concludes that overall, Oxygen’s goal is simply to provide as much variety as possible to its members, and to do so without sacrifice of facilities. “A lot of people have to travel for different experiences. The idea with Oxygen is that people can have all their stuff in one place. We provide a bunch of services for our members to try.”
