The New Canaan Fire Marshal’s office in conjunction with New Canaan Fire Co. #1, is accepting appointments to conduct complimentary fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes. These assessments are part of the New Canaan Fire Department’s longstanding and continuous commitment to fire prevention and our community risk reduction program. I myself, along with 1 member of Fire Co. #1, will perform the assessment.
Fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes include, but are not limited to, escape plans; smoke and carbon monoxide detector locations; placement and use of fire extinguishers; advice on electrical outlets, cords and power strips; and information related to mechanical equipment such as heating systems and clothes dryers. The Fire Marshal’s office will check the homes room-by-room from attic to basement, garage, exterior, and outbuildings as well.
The reviews take approximately one hour and are equally helpful for long-time residents, those who have changed residences, and first-time homeowners.
Homeowners are invited to call or email the Fire Marshal’s Office at 203-594-3030 donna.hutter@newcanaanct.gov to arrange an appointment.
