A mainstay of downtown New Canaan that’s been continuously owned for more than a decade, Connecticut Muffin this week closed its doors permanently.
Tuesday was the last day of business for the coffee shop at 108 Main St.
Reached by NewCanaanite.com, Christopher Ahumada-Figueroa, son of owner Giannina Ahumada-Figueroa, said it was “just the right time for us to move on.”
“I used to work there for some time but I moved on because I had to pursue my own career,” he said. “That’s one of the reasons why we decided to leave it, because we don’t have the help for it. And apart from that, it was just time to move on. I have two little siblings, and my mother wants to focus on them and she wants to focus on her wellbeing.”
Asked what he would like to say to Connecticut Muffin’s customers, Ahumada-Figueroa said, “Thank you so much for so many years.”
“There’s so much competition everywhere and we really appreciate people coming into our shop and giving us the opportunity over big franchises around New Canaan,” he said.
A note in the window of the coffee shop reads:
“Connecticut Muffin customers,
First and foremost, we would like to thank you for all your kind support over the past decade.
After 12 years in business, it has come at a difficult decision to end our tenure here. Our last day in business will be December 3rd.
Thank you once again for all the memories you’ve given us and we hope you all the best.
Happy Holidays!”
According to Connecticut Secretary of the State records, the limited liability company that established CT Muffin—formed in June 2012 (the prior owners had it for more than one decade)—has been dissolved.
A small shop with limited seating that developed a strong base of regular customers, CT Muffin sold a wide assortment of fresh-baked muffins among other baked items, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, lunch sandwiches, fresh-squeezed drinks, coffees and teas.
David Silverberg, representing the property ownership company, said the commercial space is a “turnkey” opportunity for a young baker or anyone seeking to open a shop where they can bake on-site. (Those interested should contact Silverberg at 424-247-3149.)
How sad! Where will I get my delicious coffee and my Morning Glory muffins now? CT Muffin will be missed!
Double sadness– the Morning Glory muffin was the best and delivered with always a cheery good morning and best wishes for a happy day.
I will miss this warm and cheery mainstay.
