New Canaan Police at 3:23 a.m. on Dec. 5 put down an injured deer that had been struck by a car at Surrey Road and South Avenue.

December 11th NCHS Boys Track and Field team and Coach Bill Martin (Right)

On Wednesday, the New Canaan High School boys Track and Field Team got together for its annual team charity event. This year the athletes went to the Person to Person office at St Luke’s Church in Darien to help set up their annual toy drive. The boys described it as a great team bonding experience to give back to the community during the holidays.

The Glass House Design Store at 199 Elm St. is holding special holiday hours next week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 to 21.

The New Canaan Community Foundation’s annual appeal is underway. “One donation touches human services, health and mental health, youth and education, the environment, the arts and more,” the organization says. “Together, we can make a difference where it’s needed most.”

The Congregational Church of New Canaan at 5 p.m. Sunday will hold its Christmas Celebration Concert, all are welcome.

David Shea will be up for appointment to the Parks & Recreation Commission by the Board of Selectmen next week, the appointed body’s chair, George Benington, said during a regular meeting Wednesday.

We hear the Study Buddies—four NCHS juniors who launched a tutoring service (here on Instagram and here on Facebook) this week made their first donation, in the amount of $400, to Children Incorporated, an international nonprofit organization that supports children and families who face challenges due to poverty.

The New Canaan Farmers Market is open for two more weekends this season. Head to the Lumberyard Lot alongside the train station downtown on Saturday Dec. 14 and 21 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., rain or shine.

Newly opened Fred Astaire Dance Studios on Main Street is offering a “New Student Special”—$39 for a 30-minute lesson. Co-owners Amy Cherrez and Marko Micic take solo students as well as partners, and also offer group classes.

The town added a fourth seating for its popular Breakfast With Santa this upcoming weekend (120 people), which quickly sold out “and there’s still a waiting list,” Parks & Rec Director John Howe said during the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting Wednesday.

Now showing at the Playhouse movie theater on Elm Street: “Wicked” and “Moana 2.” At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 the Playhouse will screen “National Theatre Live: Present Laughter.”

Congratulations to 2023 NCHS grad Chaz Lampen on, a 19-year-old singer-songwriter, on his new single “Lock Into Me” (below), produced and recorded by Pete Donnelly at Katonah Sound Studios and mastered by Drew Lavyne at All Digital Mastering. Heavily influenced by The Killers, Lampen counts the following among his mentors: piano teacher Ted Sablay, musical director and touring guitarist, teacher Brian Fox from New Canaan School of Rock and Tyler Bernhardt who encouraged his keyboard skills. He released his first single, “Closing Time,” in 2023, which he wrote and recorded when he was attending Fordham University, studying psychology. The creative process made Lampen realize that making music was his passion, so in February he auditioned for Berklee School of Music in Boston and was awarded his place in July. He’ll move to Boston in January to start the spring semester:

Police at 7:33 a.m. on Dec. 2 arrested a 39-year-old Danbury man who turned himself in on an active paperless rearrest warrant and was charged with first-degree failure to appear. According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, local police had arrested him in November 2020 on charges of violation of a criminal protective order, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
