Police brought a drunk driving charge against a 22-year-old Stamford man before dawn Saturday after finding him asleep at the wheel of a car downtown.
At about 5:50 a.m. on Sept. 3, officers were dispatched to Park and Elm Streets on a report of a vehicle parked in the intersection, police said.
Approaching, officers spotted the Stamford man unresponsive in the driver’s seat, according to a police report.
When they woke him up, police smelled alcohol on his breath, the report said.
He failed field sobriety tests and declined to undergo a breath test, it said.
Police charged him with driving under the influence.
He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 15 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
