New Canaan’s tradition of giving and caring has yet again carried on throughout the Holiday Season. The Human Services Department would like to thank each and every resident, business, club, agency, organization, place of worship and foundation for the abundant generosity given to those in need. From gift cards, gift baskets, hot meals, holiday trees, wreaths, warm winter clothing, food drives and monetary donations, everyone went above and beyond the gift of giving. Over 100 children and their parents had an unforgettable holiday, while 200 residents utilized the New Canaan Food Pantry or received a hot meal. Human Services was filled with the warmth and kindness this town never fails to display.
We thank everyone for all your support.

In our first year as co-presidents of New Canaan Beautification League, we could not be more proud of the work our members do for the Town of New Canaan.
The “Traveling Trowels” group works on maintaining Lee Memorial Garden, the terrace garden and Gold Star Walk at Mead Park, the pollinator garden at the mailbox drop-off on Pine Street, The Town Hall planters and the garden at the New Canaan railroad station. Our volunteers maintain over 30 triangles throughout town and we provide over 220 hanging baskets for the town in the Spring. Our volunteers help decorate for the Rotary Lobsterfest, the bandstand for caroling at God’s Acre and make floral arrangements for residents of Waveny Care. Our Programs Committee is always searching for great speakers and organizing wonderful programs which are free and open to the public. These are just some examples of the work our volunteers do every year. In addition, new projects this year included a garden in memory of Steve Benko at the Steve Benko pool, and new plantings at the New Canaan sign off exit 36, at the entrance of Mead Park and in front of Waveny Care Center. Also, let’s not forget all the wreaths and gnomes that are put up in town thanks to the Greens Workshop done in conjunction with New Canaan Garden Club.
The truth is, our volunteers do so much, sometimes we have a hard time keeping track. Though we know that none of what the New Canaan Beautification League does would be possible without the generous donations made to our Annual Appeal. The financial support of our donors allows us to continue our work – beautifying New Canaan. To all our donors, we can’t thank you enough. Also, though open and stunning year round, make a date to visit Lee Memorial Garden in May when the azaleas are in bloom. A truly unique and beautiful New Canaan experience.
