A new location for breast imaging opened in town last month.

Connecticut Breast Imaging – which has several locations across the state – has expanded into New Canaan with a new location on Vitti Street.

The new imaging center opened on June 2 and one week later, held an open house fundraiser for a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment and cure.

“Our June 9 Open House Fundraiser was a huge success,” said Shawn Barto, administrative manager of Breast Imaging Services. “We were able to donate $2,500 to the Breast Cancer Alliance.”

The new center provides services such as mammography, breast ultrasound and breast biopsies.

“We also offer same day appointments as well as same day reads by our highly regarded breast imagers,” Barto said.

The center is “a great addition to our town,” Executive Director of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, Laura Budd said.

“We were very lucky that the ownership group decided to expand into New Canaan,” she said.

Before the new center opened, many residents were forced to travel far distances for checkups, officials say. Now, those checkups are readily available.

“It’s a terrific opportunity for women in our community not to have to go down to Greenwich or Stamford or even further to get their mammograms done,” Budd said.

It is for this reason that Connecticut Breast Imaging chose to open a new location in New Canaan, according to Barto.

“We chose New Canaan because we wanted to provide the community with quality, easy to access, and close to home breast imaging services,” she said.

Early reception to the new center has been “fantastic,” Barto added. “The community has been so welcoming and supportive.”

She said CT Breast Imaging has already received positive feedback from patients regarding the new facility, the staff and the care.

The new imaging center is one of many businesses in the new medical building on Vitti Street, which “attracted a lot of strong businesses,” according to Budd.

“We’re really happy to have them,” she said. “They joined the Chamber right away and participated in the Sidewalk Sale and met a lot of prospective customers. We look forward to working with them.”

The long-term vision for this imaging center is to benefit the health of New Canaan, Barto said.

“We want to support the community and to provide access to quality breast health services,” she said.
