Police on New Year’s Day arrested a 23-year-old New Canaan man and charged him by warrant with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.
The misdemeanor charges stem from a dispute that was reported to authorities Nov. 28, according to police.
Police withheld details of the incident.
A person is guilty of third-degree assault, under state law, when “with intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person” or “recklessly causes serious physical injury to another person or “with criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon, a dangerous instrument or an electronic defense weapon,” among other reasons.
The man, a resident of Ponus Ridge, turned himself in to police at 2:56 p.m. on Jan. 1. He is scheduled to appear Jan. 17 in state Superior Court.
