Young and Hungry: 2015 New Canaan Rams Softball Preview

As recently as a couple weeks ago, Waveny’s Orchard Field was covered by snow. In just a few days it will be covered by the New Canaan Rams softball team. 2014 was seen by most outsiders as a rebuilding year as New Canaan lost seven starters to graduation. Even so, Rams head coach Danielle Simoneau saw it as an opportunity to both develop talent and win at the same time. The Rams made both the conference and state tournaments in 2014, finishing with an FCIAC record of 11-7 (11-11 overall). The 2015 squad is looking to take that experience and continue to grow in order to get back to both tournaments and possibly go even further into the postseason.

2015 New Canaan Rams Boys Lacrosse Preview

It’s been a long, cold lonely winter—now it’s finally time for the kids to go back outside and play. The 2015 Spring Sports season finally upon us, and one team that can’t wait to hit the field is the New Canaan High School boys lacrosse squad. Last year’s successful campaign included several dominant performances against teams from all over the Tri-State to the tune of a 17-5 overall record, culminating with a berth in the CIAC Championship. The 2015 Rams are looking to build off of that, and get over the hump otherwise known as the Darien Blue Wave. New Canaan was on the wrong side of three heartbreaking losses to its FCIAC rival, including a 12-11 loss in the conference semifinals and a 10-8 defeat in the Class M title game.

Oh, There’s No Place Like New Canaan for the Holidays

It’s the holiday season, and there is no other place than New Canaan for celebrating. From the Holiday Stroll in early December, to the Exchange Club’s Christmas tree sale at Kiwanis Park, to the lights on the trees and lampposts in town reminding us all of the beauty town has during this time of year, and culminating with the caroling on Christmas Eve. Each opportunity gives New Canaanites a chance to experience the romance of this town, as well as that feeling like there’s no place like home for the holidays. New York City is just an hour train ride away, and one could argue that its ambiance this time of year is unrivaled. If you have the time to plan a trip with family or friends, this is the best time of year to do so.

New Canaan High School Class of ’09: How Have Your Five Years Been?

It’s been five years, five months, one week and two days since we last were students at New Canaan High School. And in that time there has not been one day that has gone by without me thinking of something or someone from those high school days. Tonight, Class of 2009, is our 5-year reunion, and a lot has happened since we left the hallways of NCHS. To go back briefly to that steamy June evening in 2009, our graduation, I did something that night that many of my fellow classmates may still remember me by: I gave a speech during the “Moments of Reflection” portion of the ceremony, one that resonated with more than just my peers. Five years later, I’m giving another moment of reflection with this writing here.
