A New Canaan dog underwent a 10-day quarantine at home last month after biting a boy in the face, records show.
The dog, a 13-year-old brown-colored male mixed-breed named Petey, “was interacting” with the boy at home on Beacon Hill Lane on Jan. 28 (a Tuesday) when the incident occurred, according to a police report obtained through a public records request.
The dog’s owner—who also is the victim’s father, according to the incident report—told police that the boy “had a small puncture wound on his cheek” and was taken to a hospital with the injury, the report said. Police withheld the boy’s age.
New Canaan Police learned of the incident from a Westchester County Department of Public Health sanitarian. The name of the hospital was redacted from the case report released by police. It likely was in Westchester, prompting the sanitarian to notify local authorities.
Petey’s vaccinations are up-to-date, the report said, and the owner notified police at the end of the quarantine period (Feb. 14) that the dog was doing fine at home.
