Letter: ‘Thank You’ New Canaan Chamber Music, from Waveny LifeCare Network

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the residents and the 600 staff members of Waveny LifeCare Network, we are pleased to extend our deepest gratitude to New Canaan Chamber Music for their exceptional performance at last weekend’s “Together in Harmony Concert.”

For New Canaan Chamber Music to acknowledge, through their gift of music, the heroic efforts of New Canaan’s healthcare workers, first responders, town employees and teachers alike was truly remarkable—I know the performance will be cherished by all who attended. A special thanks to Chairman Tom Butterworth, Jane Fox and Valeri Whitmer for putting together the logistics, along with our deepest appreciation to Andrew Armstrong for his performance at Waveny’s Farm Road campus last Thursday evening to a captivated audience of residents, families and staff. Andrew’s concert was officially our first event open to fully-vaccinated family members and friends in nearly two years. Mr. Armstrong’s music filled our halls and our hearts.  Seeing Main Street alive with visitors, friends and families and the sound of music brought all in attendance tremendous joy. Waveny is blessed to have its caring and committed staff, who exemplify compassion through support of our patients and our community, recognized by so many.

Letter from Waveny LifeCare Network

Dear Editor,

As we continue through the holiday season, Waveny LifeCare Network, on behalf of its employees, physicians, patients, residents, and volunteers, would like to take this opportunity to thank our many families, donors, and our communities for their ongoing engagement, outreach, and support. It is also time to take pause and to remember those who continue to answer the call by repeatedly demonstrating the dedication and passion they have for caring for their patients and our community.

While we remain concerned with the recent increasing prevalence of COVID-19 and its variants throughout our community, we are encouraged by our community’s increase in booster rates, ongoing testing, and vaccinations. Not that long ago, the initial wave of the pandemic hit local and state-wide healthcare systems hard, with the critical factor being the disproportionate effect on the senior community. We are proud to have supported our local hospitals in the two yearlong pandemic that challenged our economy and healthcare systems at their core. Healthcare organizations like Waveny are not just brick and mortar, but composed of compassionate human beings, who were stretched, stressed, and often brought to the brink of exhaustion.

We have learned enduring lessons, developed community-based, public-private partnerships, pivoted to provide active, timely, and accurate testing, screening and vaccinations.

Letter: Dr. Charlotte Rush Brown a ‘True Pillar of Our Community’

To the Editor:

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our dear friend Charlotte Rush Brown, MD. Her spirit of enhancing access to services for the senior community will forever live on within Waveny LifeCare Network.  In the early 1960’s, many New Canaan residents were concerned that an increasing number of their neighbors, friends, and family, many of them long-time residents, were moving out of town because of a lack of appropriate housing and inadequate support services for the elderly.

With this concern for their community and with a heartfelt purpose, Charlotte and her husband, Dr. David S. Brown, along with several of their friends and clergy from seven New Canaan churches, established the Interchurch Service Committee to address this issue. These efforts eventually led to the planning of what later became Waveny Care Center. With the group’s perseverance, Waveny Care Center officially opened its doors on Sunday, April 6, 1975. Charlotte provided many wonderful years of guidance and support to Waveny, devoting hours of time in service to our seniors.

In 1998 through the Jeniam Foundation, Waveny was able to honor Charlotte and her husband David with the installation of the Brown Geriatric Evaluation Clinic for their role in the co-founding of Waveny Care Center.
