New Canaan Woman Slips on Ice, Falls, Fractures Ankle, Files Notice of Intent To Sue Town

A local woman who slipped and fell on New Canaan Housing Authority property earlier this year has filed a notice that she intends to sue the town. Roseline Duveillaume had been walking late on a Wednesday morning in January on a pathway behind a building at 33 Millport Ave. “when suddenly and without warning she was caused to slip and fall due to ice that had accumulated thereon,” according to a notice received Monday by the Town Clerk’s office. “Duveillaume fell on the pathway that leads to the road and a parking area,” according to papers filed on behalf of the claimant by attorney Ashley Kocian of New Britain-based Kocian Law Group. “This is a commonly used pathway by residents of the complex,” the notice said.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection recommends that homeowners play an active role in ensuring that their oil system is properly maintained on an annual basis. Examine gauge for leaks and cracks
Check the condition of the oil tank.

New Canaan Farmers Market To Launch April 23 in Lumberyard Lot

The popular New Canaan Farmers Market is on track to open April 23 in the Lumberyard Lot downtown. The Board of Selectmen during its regular meeting last week approved the Farmers Market for an Earth Day celebration at launch through November. Market Master Lexi Gazy told the selectmen “the farmers are ready to come back,” and that offerings will include fresh organic produce as well as vendors offering pies, beef, pork, oysters, clams, orchids, preserves, jams, jellies, honey, raviolis and pickles. “We are looking forward to a great season,” Gazy said during the March 8 meeting, held at Town Hall and via videoconference. “The new location worked out really well for traffic and parking.

Town Teaming Up with Laurel House To Provide Services at Canaan Parish, Millport Apartments

The town is availing itself of a Stamford-based nonprofit organization to help provide services to residents of affordable housing in New Canaan. Members of the New Canaan Department of Human Services “have found there’s needed services possibly at Canaan Parish and Millport Apartments, bringing some information and help to those that might need it but aren’t aware of it,” Youth and Family Services Coordinator Jacqueline D’Louhy said during the March 3 meeting of the Health and Human Services Commission. “So we’ve teamed up with Laurel House,” D’Louhy said during the meeting, held via videoconference. “They have a wonderful caseworker there that has offered to come to both sites.”

Laurel House offers a wide range of mental health services and programs throughout lower Fairfield County, including in New Canaan, according to the organization’s website. “Programs and services include recovery planning, life skills coaching and skill building, supported education, supported employment, ‘Thinking Well’ (cognitive remediation), housing and residential services, food service and wellness, social opportunities, and active outreach to individuals who might otherwise be isolated,” it says.
