I’m writing today to strongly advocate that we do not reduce town funding to Health and Human Services during this budget period. Our Grand List is up 23.6%; $750,000 of ARPA funds are being transferred into our town’s General Fund. Our Board of Selectmen have approved a $176.8 Million budget up 6.09% year over year, with increases driven by a variety of factors including inflation, health insurance, school staffing, and information technology.

At the same time, there is an interest in finding savings to offset these headwinds. As taxpayers, we of course have interest in these savings.

Dear Editor,
One of the podcasts that I’ve included in my listening rotation these past few years has been Bishop Frank Caggiano’s popular “Let Me Be Frank”. It’s a welcome change of pace. I listened to last week’s episode about the National Eucharistic Revival and the title alone contained a word that I’ve probably been needing to articulate for about a year now, since the Diocese of Bridgeport announced in March that Blue Ribbon St. Aloysius School would not be reopening: Revival.

Who Knew: Time to Try the Donuts!

‘Who Knew?’ is sponsored by Walter Stewart’s Market. Scientists recently suggested that the universe is shaped like a donut, not the pancake shape we all believed it to be for decades. Light waves leftover from the Big Bang, once thought to run parallel, were observed converging. While we wait for further evidence to determine what carb we most closely resemble, we can’t sit idle. If the universe is but a donut, who am I not to chase that shape down a highly caloric, Homer Simpson-style rabbit hole of dough, glaze, and filling?

Editor,

Last weekend, the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society hosted its first Mad Hatter Valentine’s Tea Party. Sold out within days, it was a wonderful way to bring new faces to the Museum and to welcome children, parents, caregivers, and grandparents for an afternoon of tea and treats.   We were overwhelmed by, and grateful for, the enormous enthusiasm of both the planners and the attendees. There are many people to thank for making this party a success:

Meg Hely Walsh and the Grace Farms Foundation for their generosity in providing all of the tea for the event. Young and old loved the different flavors, with Hibiscus Orange and Spearmint winning the fan favorites.

Letter to Community from New President and CEO of New Canaan Library

Hello! I am delighted to introduce myself as the new President & CEO of the New Canaan Library and am thankful for the warm welcome you have already shown me. I come to you as the former Executive Director of the Berlin, Peck library just up the road on I-95. I am excited to begin living in New Canaan and experiencing the rich community life so evident around me. My arrival happens to coincide with the new Library’s one year anniversary.
