New Canaan Police are investigating a report of vandalism on Windrow Lane that came in to the department at 2:14 p.m. on Nov. 5. The home is scheduled for demolition and a rear slider door was found to be broken, with spray paint on the interior walls, police said. Authorities do not have any known suspects at this time, officials said.

The New Canaan Building Department on Tuesday issued a permit for the construction of the new 45-room, 33,798-square-foot library. The contractor on the job is Shelton-based Turner Construction Company, the permit said. The library paid a total of $32,272 in fees for the permit.

Sales of tickets to the Turkey BowlNew Canaan High School’s annual Thanksgiving morning football game versus rival Darien—will go on sale to the general public from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday in the NCHS auxiliary gym (cash only). The game will be held at Dunning Stadium at 10 a.m. on Nov. 25. Tickets first will be made available to football players and their families, cheerleaders and students through online sales starting Monday. “There are a limited number of tickets and there will be no tickets sold the day of the game,” NCHS athletics officials said in a press release.

Speaking of NCHS football, congratulations to kicker Ty Groff on being named “Player of the Week” by The Ruden Report. Groff’s citation notes that he “kicked four field goals, including a 44-yarder, and finished with 15 points in a 33-6 win over Fairfield Ludlowe.”

First Selectman Kevin Moynihan told members of the Board of Finance on Tuesday night during an update on COVID-19, “I would tell people not to do karaoke in town. That seems to be a source of problems for us.”

The former New Canaan parking enforcement officer who earlier this year sued the town and a local construction company after she tripped and fell downtown in January 2019 has withdrawn the lawsuit, Connecticut Judicial Branch records show.

The link to sign up for the 2021 Gingerbread House Kits Sponsored by Brown Harris Stevens will go live on the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce website starting at 11 a.m. on Nov. 16. There are 150 kits available to families with children under 12 to take home and decorate. Each gingerbread house will be placed in a store window which will be assigned to the family when they pick up their kits later in the week.

Newly elected members of the Town Council were sworn in Wednesday night by Town Clerk Claudia Weber. The new members of the legislative body who gathered at Town Hall for a special meeting that was added to the municipal calendar online the following day include Rita Bettino, Luke Kaufman, Kimberly Norton and Hilary Ormond.

New Canaan Police at 9:38 a.m. Monday received a report of a motorist who passed a stopped school bus on South Avenue.

More than 40 New Canaan High School SLOBs and parents planted a new “Fernery Garden” in Bristow Park on NOv. 6. Created by garden designer Ty Tan with site preparation by P. Lanni Construction, four shifts of SLOBs planted more than 220 ferns of various varieties and 180 supporting sedges, grasses and bushes during an 8-hour period. The New Canaan Beautification League’s ‘Traveling Trowels’ team provided guidance and support. Funded by the Friends of Bristow Park, this fernery harks back to the 1931 fern garden recorded in the historical archives of Bristow Park. Located near the recently improved pond and Old Stamford Road entrance, the fernery represents another step in the 2024 Bristow Park Centennial Master Plan.

Firefighters at about 9:06 a.m. Wednesday were called to a Betsy’s Lane home on an animal rescue call. A dog had been choking and its owner phoned for help in the emergency, though the animal turned out to be fine, officials said.

New Canaan Library on Nov. 19 will reveal the inspiration, plans and designs of the new facility in a new and permanent immersive exhibit called “New Canaan. New Library. New Chapter.” In a press release, library officials said, This family-friendly experience invites everyone to explore the design and history of the new building, understand the major influences that impacted its creation, and vote for their favorite new features in the new building. The exhibit is open to the public in the H. Pelham Curtis Gallery on the main floor of the library.”

New Canaan Ethics Board Chair Tucker Clauss said during a special meeting Monday that “by operation of the Town Code, my term does not expire until the end of the pendency of this matter.” He referred to a recently filed ethics complaint that the Board discussed in a closed executive session during the meeting, held in Town Hall. Following that executive session, Clauss asked Board Secretary Bob Schott to notify the first selectman or Board of Selectmen regarding his term. “They would be nominating my replacement, and so they need to know that there is an action pending that extends my term, unfortunately,” Clauss said. It’s unclear what the ethics complaint involves.

The New Canaan YMCA has hired five employees in its summer camp, aquatics, youth programs and wellness department as part of new employment initiative for individuals with special needs. “We’re incredibly proud of every employee hired through the initiative and excited to grow our employment offerings in a workplace committed to inclusivity,” New Canaan YMCA Executive Director Margaret Riley said in a statement.

Finally, a reminder that on Nov. 27, a number of community groups in New Canaan will place wreaths on graves in honor of New Canaan’s deceased veterans. The annual effort is organized by local VFW Post 653 and covers all of the known veterans in New Canaan’s public and private cemeteries. The effort is supported financially by the Exchange Club, which provides the wreaths at cost, money raised from poppy sales over Memorial Day weekend and private donations.
