Congratulations to the New Canaan High School girls ice hockey team, FCIAC champions for the ninth time, and the third time in four years after beating the Stamford/Westhill/Staples co-op 5-1 on Feb. 26 at the Darien Ice House. CT Insider’s Dave Stewart named both Kaleigh Harden and Nikki Ferraro among top tournament performers. Here are their citations:
-
Nikki Ferraro: Freshman goalie collected 52 saves while allowing just one goal in two games to help the Rams win the FCIAC title. She made 23 stops while earning her ninth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Greenwich in the semis, and then had 29 saves in a 5-1 victory against Stamford/Westhill/Staples in the final.
- Kaleigh Harden: The senior forward had a hat trick and was named the MVP of the FCIAC final on Saturday when the Rams defeated Stamford/Westhill/Staples 5-1 to repeat as conference champions. Harden scored four of New Canaan’s seven goals in two playoff games.
