Last week, more than 6,000 pages of correspondence was uploaded to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website in the first of the New Canaan Preservation Alliance’s four active lawsuits versus the town of New Canaan and New Canaan Library.

New Canaan icon Walter Schalk, recently retired, is selling hundreds of costumes he has amassed through the decades and will “donate the proceeds to local youth performing arts groups,” according to a News 12 article.

The New Canaan Building Department on Feb. 10 received an application for interior work at 10-12 East Maple St. to turn the commercial property “into one office space.”

Police on Feb. 17 received a report of a front license plate and catalytic converter stolen from a vehicle parked at the Talmadge Hill Train Lot two days prior.

Each golf ball—available for purchase here starting March 1—will have an assigned number. Winners whose golf balls land closest to the target will win one of the following special prizes: a Momentum Transend Electric Bike, a pet portrait by Emma Sims, a season pass to the Steve Benko Pool at Waveny Park or an 84 Sports gift basket.  The winning balls will be announced immediately. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the NCSF for need-based scholarships given to NCHS graduates.

Selectman Kathleen Corbet during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting moved that the “Selectmen’s Comments” item be added to the elected body’s agenda for that meeting and all future Board meetings (First Selectman Kevin Moynihan had left it off, yet again). Selectman Nick Williams seconded her successful motion, approved 3-0 by the Board.

Police are investigating a report, received at 11:49 a.m. on Feb. 18, about jewelry that went missing from a Trinity Pass Road home while its residents were moving out.

Police at 8:03 a.m. Monday arrested a 20-year-old Norwalk man and charged him with a number of motor vehicle-related offenses after stopping him on Weed Street for having darkened windows without a required sticker.

Police received reports of motorists passing stopped school buses in the area of 817 Smith Ridge Road (1:40 p.m. on Feb. 17) and 72 Heritage Hill Road (11:05 a.m. on Feb. 16).

Town resident state Rep. Tom O’Dea (R-125th) on Monday helped lead a press conference at Gores Pavilion in Irwin Park regarding affordable housing. “New Canaan and other similar towns throughout Connecticut have been left in the dust by restrictive and antiquated guidelines on affordable housing since 8-30g became law three decades ago,” he said in a press release. “Our community has made significant investments in our affordable units and in my tenure on the New Canaan Town Council and as a state representative, have always balanced our goals to increase stock while protecting local control of development decisions. Our proposals will level the playing field for our small towns and encourage continued growth.” New Canaan Housing Authority Chair Scott Hobbs also participated in the press conference.
