Finally, we received the following write-up titled “New Canaan High School Alpine Ski Team Finishes the Season Strong at CISL State Championships”:
Building on five years of growth, the New Canaan High School Alpine Ski team completed another successful season with a strong showing on February 27th at the CT Interscholastic Ski League (CISL) Championships at Mount Southington.
Led by Coaches Chandler Brill (USSA level 300 coach) and Bill Kleinmann, the two teams continued to see incredible improvements, including two racers who qualified for the CISL CT All-State Team.
At the State Championships, the New Canaan Girls Varsity team finished fourth out of seven “S” class teams and had several standout performances by their lead racers. In a field of 135 racers, Senior Co-Captain Paxton Beladino led the New Canaan Girls Team with a 10th place finish. Beladino was followed by Junior Kailin Downey, who placed 25th. Freshman Claire Stallings had an excellent second run, earning her an impressive spot in the top 50 racers. Senior Co-Captain Rory McCarthy completed her fourth and final CT State Championship placing in the top 50th percentile while building team spirit amongst her fellow racers. For outstanding performances throughout the season, Beladino has earned CISL All-State Team Honors, and Downey will receive CISL All-State Team Honorable Mention.
The NCHS Boys Varsity team was led by a triumvirate of Senior Co-Captains Myles Gropper, Hari Joshi, and Ned Ravenesi. The Ram boys program expanded this year to find new talent in two seasoned freshmen, James Bakal and Max Boccoccio, who raced competitively alongside veterans Matthew Angilletta, Slade Lodgson, and Henry Ravenesi. Throughout the warm winter, the boys pushed themselves to achieve several Personal Best race times on the courses, with total team scores placing them in the top 50 nearly all season. By filling the ranks and growing as a team, they have laid a strong foundation for next year’s program to continue competitive racing.
Despite the warm temperatures and lack of snowfall, the NCHS Alpine Girl’s and Boy’s teams completed another successful season. Congratulations to NCHS Alpine Ski Girls Team for a fantastic CISL CT State Championship and all our racers for a terrific season. This strong performance and team growth of both teams provides a solid foundation for the future of the NCHS Alpine Ski Team and the 2023/2024 season.
