Attention swimmers and triathletes: Starting Monday, June 5, highly respected former New Canaan Y swim coach Rich Ludemann—an NCAA Divisions 1 and 2 coach who has placed athletes on World Championship, National and Olympic Teams, along with NCAA, Senior and Junior National scorers—will run morning workouts at a 25-meter, six-lane outdoor pool facility minutes off of the Merritt Parkway. The program is designed to serve everyone from Masters swimmers who love the sport, to triathletes looking to improve the first leg of their events, to high school and college swimmers seeking to stay in shape this summer without the pressures of competition. “Stroke corrections, training for success and creating an environment for achievement is our goal for your individual needs,” Ludemann said. A New Canaan man reported to police that at about 5:45 p.m. on March 18 (a Saturday) he’d been bitten on the left calf by a dog in a Land Trust property off of Wellesley Road, according to an incident report obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request. A medium-sized Labrador retriever mix with white and tan markings, the dog appeared to answer to the call of “Casey” but the animal’s apparent owner, a man in his 50s, could not be found by the injured park visitor.

Waveny will present a community health program titled “So Many Decisions So Little Time, Empowering You and Your Family – Resources to Smooth the Path in Preparation for the End of Life Journey,” on “Main Street” at Waveny LifeCare Network, 3 Farm Road, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, along with the Hannah Benedict Carter Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will dedicate two commemorative markers—for Capt. The Building Department on April 24 issued an after-the-fact permit for about $75,000 of work completed at 362 South Ave. The work involved an 18-by-40-foot inground pool with interior spa and automatic safety cover and fencing, the permit said. “All construction was 100% complete prior to the permit being issued,” it said. The town collected $1,575 in fees for the permit issuance.

Also happening Sunday: The “Sunshine for ScarlettGreat Strides walk benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will kick off at New Canaan High School at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 7. The walk raises money for the cause in the name of a 12-year-old New Canaan girl who also is a New Canaan Dance Academy team member. The New Canaan Housing Authority—as “Millport Phase II Limited Partnership”—on April 25 filed papers in state Superior Court to evict a resident who owes more than $17,000 in back rent, according to the complaint, including $541 due for the month of February.
