Town Clerk Claudia Weber on Tuesday swore in two members of the New Canaan Fire Department. Brian Doane, a firefighter for nine years, was promoted and sworn in as a lieutenant. Garrett Cantrell, a member of the New Canaan Fire Company, was sworn in as a career firefighter.

Police are investigating a report received at 1:01 p.m. on June 10 about a package containing coins dropped off at the Post Office on Locust Avenue that did not reach its destination.

Police at 1:20 p.m. Sunday received a report of a smashed window on a parked car at Waveny. The theft had occurred the prior day, police said. A purse, cash and credit cards were stolen. The investigation is active.

Kate Brambilla

Staying Put in New Canaan this week announced that it has hired Kate Brambilla as Manager of Member Services. A town resident since December 2020, Brambilla caught sight of a SPNC bumper sticker while driving through their new neighborhood, and became a volunteer to help the organization’s members with rides and errands, officials say. Prior to joining Staying Put, she worked in the art world at Christie’s Auction House and subsequently as an appraiser and advisor to private collectors. Brambilla graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Vermont.

VFW Post 653 is asking for volunteers to help with picking up the American flags at Lakeview Cemetery at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. Please considering helping with this effort to recognize New Canaan’s interred military veterans.

Bella DeFelice, Javier Perez-Soto, Shawna Ferraro and Ty Groff were the winners of the highest honors Tuesday afternoon at the New Canaan High School Senior Athletic Awards Ceremony. DeFelice and Groff were awarded the Joe Sikorski Scholarship while Ferraro and Perez-Soto were named the winners of the Vin Iovino Scholarship.
