New Canaan Police at 3:49 a.m. Sunday received a report of a vehicle stolen from a private parking lot behind the new townhouses at Forest Street and Locust Avenue. It was recovered in Bridgeport.

Just three performances remain of Town Players of New Canaan’s production of “12 Angry Men”—8 p.m. Friday and 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday (there’s no Sunday matinee). Tickets here. The 1957 drama follows 12 jurors as they deliberate to make the life or death decision of a young man accused of killing his father.

All four wheels were removed overnight from a vehicle parked at a condo development on Route 123, as reported to police at 7:29 a.m. on June 4. The investigation is ongoing.

About 98% of New Canaan commuters are driving to Darien and Stamford—rather than catching a bus—to catch Metro-North Railroad trains now that the local branch line is out of commission while officials work on it, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting. Bill Oestmann, superintendent of buildings with the New Canaan Department of Public Works, said that town officials don’t know whether the project will be completed by Labor Day, as the Connecticut Department of Transportation has indicated.

This year’s N.C. Combine, scheduled for Oct. 1—an athletic contest between the local police and fire departments that brings in town residents for the fun—will benefit the New Canaan-based Gracie Fund for Pediatric Cancer (background here). The event needs many volunteers, info here.

Congratulations to 1997 New Canaan High School graduate Elon Green, whose nonfiction book “Last Call: A True Story of Love, Lust, and Murder in Queer New York” has been made into an HBO four-episode docuseries that will debut July 9.

A customer at 12:20 p.m. reported that their wallet had been stolen from Acme on Elm Street while shopping. The investigation is active.

Police at 10:15 p.m. on June 16 received a report of jewelry stolen from an Adams Lane home after suspects gained entry by breaking a first-floor window. The investigation is ongoing.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced Wednesday that Connecticut is releasing more than $7 million in state grants to nonprofit organizations for the purposes of making facility and infrastructure upgrades at 34 cultural and historic sites statewide. They include $128,000 “to renovate and enhance the courtyard entry to the Carriage Barn Arts Center that will serve as a year-round public space for programs, performances, exhibitions, socializing and enjoyment,” according to a press release from the governor’s office.

From 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, 15% of all sales at J. McLaughlin at 116 Elm St. will go to the Cathy Kangas Foundation for Animals, and specifically a PRAI for PAWS charity.

Police at 7:55 p.m. on June 14 received a report of a key ring with car and house keys that went missing from a Turner Hill Road home.

Registration is open now through July 31st for New Canaan Youth Field Hockey‘s Fall 2023 season. Players rising to grades 5 to 8 can score early bird rates if registered by July 4th, and registration for the grade 3-4 program opens soon.

The Exchange Club of New Canaan raises its funds for grant-making through the Christmas Tree Sale and a golf outing.

The Exchange Club of New Canaan announced that the service organization, through its annual grant-making, gave more than $200,000 to 35 not-for-profit organizations in New Canaan and neighboring communities over the past year. Beneficiaries include ABC Inc. of New Canaan, Boy Scouts of America, Carriage Barn Arts Center, New Canaan Scholarship Fund, Filling in the Blanks, Future Five,  GetAbout, Inc., Help for Kids, Little Free Pantry, Meals-on-Wheels, New Canaan Cares, New Canaan Historical Society, New Canaan Parent Support Group, Pivot Ministries, Inc, Planet New Canaan, Shepherds, Inc., Staying Put in New Canaan, WEE-ACT College Tours, and Women Empowering Women.
