Congratulations to the NCHS girls varsity tennis team on notching an FCIAC title by defeating Greenwich High School 4-3. Led by coach Catherine Walker, they will head into the state tournament this weekend.

The 2024 New Canaan Old Timers Golf Outing will be held Tuesday, June 25 at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield. The ​New Canaan Old Timers Association’s outing benefits the Vin Iovino Scholarship and New Canaan High School athletic scholarships. Congratulations to NCHS alumna and Middlebury College freshman field hockey standout Shawna Ferraro on winning a D3 title.

The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday voted 3-0 to approve the hiring of Alison Keena as tax assessment technician. Keena submitted one of 25 applications for the job in the assessor’s office. She’s a Realtor who has worked for the town of Darien in Human Services since 2021, according to New Canaan Human Resources Director Cheryl Pickering Jones

Police at 1:22 p.m. on May 17 responded to a report of a sick raccoon on Lambert Road, and put the animal down.

Great story here from the Yale News about New Canaan’s Vanessa Landegger, who earned a master’s degree in nursing from the Yale School of Nursing, which she attended in her final year with her son Dylan Antonioli.

New Canaan resident Alexis Brooks, an attorney, has joined local law firm Lampert, Toohey and Rucci, LLC in its corporate and general business law practice. Brooks received her law degree from Suffolk Law School and bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. She lives in New Canaan with her husband, Jeff, and their three children.

Kids 8-and-older who have memberships to Steve Benko Pool at Waveny can learn to play water polo through a program sponsored by the town and run by CT Premier, headed by Scholl Schulte. The New Canaan Men’s Club on May 10 presented member Keith Richey with its 2024 Distinguished Service Award, in recognition of his exceptional, long-term service to the club, town and greater community.

Carolyn Corcoran of New Canaan on May 18 was installed as CT State President of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She will oversee the local chapters of P.E.O. for the next year. The organization’s mission is to help women around the world advance through education. Since its founding in 1869, P.E.O. philanthropies have provided approximately $432 million in financial assistance to more than 125,000 women in the form of loans and scholarships at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The owner of a Butler Lane home last week filed another set of papers in state Superior Court to evict his ex-wife, Catherine Palmer. She pleaded guilty in 2021 to animal cruelty after three puppies died while in her care at the house, and another 12 dogs were found to be neglected and were seized (and successfully rehomed) by the town.
