New Canaan Police at 4:29 a.m. on June 29 received a report of a burglary from a Parade Hill Road residence. Items were reportedly taken from the kitchen and a vehicle was stolen from the driveway.

New Canaan resident Steve Haberstroh, whose mother Patty passed away last year following a six-year battle with ALS, was one of eight competitors in a 100-hole match play golf challenge held June 18 at Great River in Milford, raising money to fight the disease. All of the golfers competing had been impacted by ALS (Haberstroh’s two-man team won the golf portion). They raised more than $300,000.

Courtney Skipton Long is the new Director of Development at The Glass House. Contributed

The Glass House this week announced the appointment of Courtney Skipton Long, Ph.D., as its new director of development. Dr. Long brings more than 15 years of experience in universities, art museums, and non-profit fundraising to the role, the organization said in a press release. “A Connecticut native, most recently served as Director of Development at the Yale Schwarzman Center in New Haven,” it said. “Dr. Long holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MA and Ph.D. in the history of art and architecture from the University of Pittsburgh. Her expertise lies in the intersection of art and science in the 19th century. She has curated exhibitions, written articles, and worked in curatorial departments for prestigious institutions including the Bruce Museum, The Huntington, and Yale Center for British Art.”

Parks & Recreation Director John Howe said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting that the town “had a little issue over the weekend where people decided they needed to jump over the fence and play pickleball in the morning.”

The Gridiron Club of New Canaan recently presented the New Canaan Community Foundation with a donation of $8,000, proceeds from Gridiron’s annual show. This year’s April 2024 event recognized Tom Stadler for his outstanding example and many years of community service to New Canaan. Stadler selected NCCF as the beneficiary based on the organization’s broad reach and support of local organizations focused on health, human services and education.

Police at 5:34 p.m. on July 2 received a report of an unlocked vehicle with its keys inside was stolen from a Ferris Hill Road driveway.

Congratulations to NCHS grad Claire Ayoub with the announcement this week that her film, “Empire Waist,” will be released Sept. 27 across theaters in the United States and Canada. Check out the new movie poster here on Instagram.

Former NCPD Officer David Rivera was sentenced this week following guilty pleas for first-degree malicious wounding or killing of an animal and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was sentenced to five years, suspended after two years for his malicious wounding or killing of an animal charge. He’ll serve one year in jail concurrently on the reckless endangerment charge.

NCCF recently announced the appointment of four new board members and a new staff appointment. The new board members, Holly Donaldson Casella, William Hines, Tiffany Kuehner, and Alex Stewart, “bring diverse backgrounds and strong ties to the community,” a press release said. “Carrie Kurtz, joining as Development Director, will leverage her corporate experience and passion for the foundation’s mission to advance development efforts.”
