This write-up on the New Canaan Varsity squash team’s success at February’s U.S. High School Championships from Mike Buczkiewicz (thanks Mike):

“In a thrilling display of skill and determination, New Canaan’s Varsity High School Boys squash team recently competed in the prestigious 2025 U.S. High School Championships in Philadelphia. This event, the largest squash tournament in the world, brought together over 1,600 players from 203 teams across thirteen divisions.

“For the season, the Rams secured a sixth-place finish in the FairWest league with a 5-4 record. The team’s success was largely driven by a trio of talented seniors: Jake Donohue, Ashton Baker, and Atma Krishnan. Donohue dominated the league matches with a flawless 4-0 record, ranking him sixth out of 107 league varsity players. Baker, the team captain, also had a standout season with a 3-1 league record, placing him 28th overall. Krishnan concluded a solid season with a 3-3 record.

“Beyond their on-court achievements, these seniors are set to make their mark in academia next year. Donohue will attend the University of Chicago and Baker will head to Tufts University

“The team’s leadership and experience will be passed on to a promising group of returning juniors next season, including Michael Telesco, Teddy Bach, Jordan Alexander, and Arya Mitra

“In addition, at the team’s end-of-season banquet, Mitra was honored with the Schmidt Cup, which goes to the player who is most supportive of his teammates and demonstrates the best sportsmanship on and off the court. Freshman Henry Buczkiewicz was named Varsity MVP while Aidan Salas earned Junior Varsity MVP honors, marking a bright future for the team.

“The New Canaan Squash program, which organizes the high school team, is a K-12 competitive initiative catering to students in the New Canaan public school system and it is led by Director Zac Alexander with coaches Devan Currie and Maddie Hylland. 1. What happens if the building were left alone as a historical landmark of sorts? Even if it were not used, the temperature in the winter could be kept at a level so that the pipes didn’t freeze then possibly it could get limited use in more temperate months. I’m thinking more from the perspective of keeping more of these New Canaan landmarks than demolishing them. When demolition is completed, I don’t see much added use for the space now occupied by the house considering large amounts of money necessary for conversion.

If the house were crumbling, the roof, etc. at risk or danger to the public I could see more of an urgency to this.
