The Board of Selectmen during its regular meeting Tuesday approved a legal bill that showed the town spent $39,664 in legal fees on the Charter Revision Commission during the fiscal year that ended June 30. First Selectman Dionna Carlson said, “I just want people to know that the town operations did not go over budget. It is the Charter Revision [Commission] that has [gone over] and that was not budgeted for in the last budget cycle. We have to take it out of contingency.”

Green & Tonic on Forest Street, which suffered significant flood damage during Tuesday’s storm, is temporarily closed “while the team assesses the damage and begins repairs,” a company representative said. The store’s “Summer Celebration” has been canceled. “The team is hopeful they’ll be able to reopen sometime in August and reschedule the event once they’re back on their feet,” company officials say. Green & Tonic’s Darien and other Fairfield County locations are open.

The widely anticipated referendum vote on the Town Council’s newly adopted summertime ban on gas-powered leaf blowers will be conducted at New Canaan High School from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Carlson said during this week’s selectmen meeting that absentee ballot voting is available at the Town Clerk’s office through Friday.

A vehicle reported stolen from a New Norwalk Road home at 3:49 a.m. on July 14—keys left inside it—was recovered in Bridgeport, police said.
