Police arrested a 30-year-old Bridgeport man before dawn on Sept. 5 and charged him with third-degree assault, interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence.

At about 2:58 a.m. that Saturday, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle stopped in the middle of Main Street, according to a police report.

Checking to see if the driver needed help, the officer was approached by the victim who said the man had grabbed and hurt her, the report said.

Through an investigation, police established probable cause to make an arrest.

During the incident, officers smelled alcohol in the car and the man admitted to taking shots of tequila, the report said.

At headquarters, the man provided breath samples that established his blood-alcohol level at .1495 and .1381, more than half again as much as the legal limit.

He was released on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear the next available day, Sept. 8, in state Superior Court. According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he remains out on bond and hasn’t yet pleaded, with a new arraignment date of Oct. 20.
