Police on Sunday night arrested a 76-year-old New Canaan woman and charged her with driving under the influence.
At about 9:25 p.m. on July 23, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle on South Avenue near Farm Road with no lights on, according to a police report. The driver was operating the vehicle erratically, the report said.
During a stop, the officer could smell alcohol on the driver and saw signs of impairment, it said.
After conducting field sobriety tests, the woman was charged with the misdemeanor offense.
At police headquarters, she provided two breath samples that established her blood-alcohol level at .1302 and .1308—about half again as high as the legal limit of .08.
She additionally was cited for failure to display lights and failure to drive right.
Police released the woman on $400 bond and scheduled her to appear Aug. 4 in state Superior Court.
