I am honored to offer my endorsement of Republican Endorsed Candidate Kimberly Norton for re-election to the New Canaan Town Council. As a lifelong Republican born in 1921, I have had the privilege of calling New Canaan my home for over four decades. As one of the first residents of the Schoolhouse Apartments when they opened in 1992, I have experienced the benefits of living independently in senior housing and continue to thrive in this wonderful community.

New Canaan is one of the best places in the country to age in place, and the Schoolhouse Apartments are a shining example of successful in-town senior housing. Kimberly Norton understands this well. As Co-Chair of Health and Human Services, she has been a strong advocate for seniors and for policies that help us remain active, engaged, and supported in our community.

She visits with us often and takes the time to speak with residents, listening to their concerns, and gathering suggestions to strengthen our senior community. Her dedication, compassion, and hands-on approach make her an invaluable leader. We need her vision and care to guide us as our local senior population continues to grow and requires housing and services.

It is with great confidence that I endorse Kimberly Norton for re-election. I believe she will continue to serve with integrity, fairness, and an unwavering commitment to the growing senior population of  New Canaan.

Respectfully,

Rose LaViola

Vote for incumbents. We need experienced individuals who have done the job of protecting our tax dollars. I have lived her for 38 years and know them well. They genuinely care how we spend our tax dollars.

Like others, I fear there’s a plan from Town Hall to stack the Town Council with Board of Education-friendly minions.

The goal is to spend $300 million of our tax dollars for a fourth school that others in local government know we don’t need. State forms filled out by school officials tell the true story of our capacity and copies of said forms were sent to all town officials Aug. 3. Data obtained through a public records request regarding the proposed North School indicate that there are 28 empty classrooms in K-4 and Saxe will average 81% capacity over the next 10 years. There is no space shortage now or in 10 years, based on my analysis of that data. Pushing the town debt from $132 million to close to half a billion dollars it would double if not triple our taxes, in my estimation.

I believe the plan was to have Penny Young not run on a pretext of age, where the real reason was to get rid of incumbents, and that she refused. Then Kimberly Norton was targeted, I believe, to create a slate of four. So, we have five Republicans running for four seats (and four Democrats running while the party holds two seats), where only one of the Democrats is an incumbent—Hilary Ormond, please vote for her, she always asks questions.

We need continuity on the Town Council.

Kim Norton, Penny Young and Hilary Ormond—yes. Scott Gress, no.

  1. Corporate governance requires its board of directors to be nominated by an independent nominating committee and then approved by its shareholders. This selection process advocates for board independence and prevents the CEO from stacking its board with cronies that will rubber stamp the CEO’s agenda that might not be aligned with shareholder interests. This widely practiced governance is analogous to our town government where New Canaan’s town council members should be independent of its executive branch and not hand picked, thereby protecting tax payers and acting in their best interest.

  2. I’ll be voting for Kimberly Norton for Town Council on principle.
As a member of the NC Republican Party, I found the caucus process troubling. A “cool kids” table of four emerged—effectively boxing Kimberly out of a fair nomination. That kind of gatekeeping undermines the integrity of the process and disrespects the commitment of candidates who genuinely care about our town.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened. The same tactics were used against Keith Richey (may he rest in peace), another dedicated public servant who deserved better. Both Keith and Kimberly have shown unwavering commitment to our community and its taxpayers. .
I’m happy that Kimberly chose to persevere. Her decision to run despite the politics speaks volumes. She has my vote.

    • Richard, I agree with your observation about the 2025 caucus.
Like you, I will cast my vote for Kim. She is a strong candidate, a dedicated public servant who is an excellent team player and a proven leader. Her thorough research and analytical skills coupled with her prior experience on Town Council earn my confidence and vote.

  3. I have lived in New Canaan for 30 years, was the Treasurer of the New Canaan Republic Town Committee (RTC) for 2 years and have been a major supporter of the New Canaan Republican party in both financial and personal time for 29 years. However the backroom tactics I have observed in this years Republican Caucus and subsequent actions by the Town Council Slate of Candidates has turned me off. I cannot support the R Slate.

Their actions in besmirching a Legally Confirmed Republican Petitioning Candidate which candidate, Kim Norton, has been confirmed by the CT Secretary of State and New Canaan’s Town Clerk is immoral, questions the Slate candidates qualifications to fairly represent and quite frankly is in opposition of fair elections and the Constitutional right to vote for a confirmed legal candidate.

Additionally just yesterday we have a Slate candidate falsely claiming to have 30 years of iinvestment banking expertise and have been an investment banker because they worked at RBC in the IT Department. Is this the type of non-transparent falsities we want a member of our legislative branch to have? Me thinks not.

Over the years I have found Incumbent Kim Norton fair, unbiased and hard working. She is always complemented by the TC Chair of her preparation and attendance. Most importantly the Deep State Municipal politicians want a Slate they can control. Kim has shown that she stands for what is best practices for New Canaan and cannot be manipulated by back door politics.
