Police last week arrested a 24-year-old Staten Island, N.Y. woman by warrant and charged her with second-degree larceny, a felony offense.
The warrant stemmed from an investigation that police launched Jan. 26 following a report of stolen mail and a check that was fraudulently cashed, officials said.
The arrested woman turned herself in to New Canaan Police at about 12:38 p.m. on May 2, officials said.
Under state law, a person is guilty of second-degree larceny if he or she steals something worth more than $10,000 or “is obtained by embezzlement, false pretenses or false promise and the victim of such larceny is sixty years of age or older” or disabled, among other reasons.
The woman was released on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear May 15 in state Superior Court.
