A worker at a construction site on Valley Road died Friday after an accident at an excavation site, according to New Canaan Fire Chief Albe Bassett.
At about 10 a.m., emergency responders rushed to 208 Valley Road—the street address of Silver Hill Hospital—on a report of a construction accident, Bassett said in a press release.
Fire dispatch notes indicated that a worker required rescue from a trench.
According to Bassett, there had been a “trench/excavation collapse” and though the worker was removed within 15 minutes he succumbed to his injuries.
It’s unclear whether the deceased had been operating excavation equipment or got trapped under machinery. Bassett gave no further specifics.
The incident is under investigation by New Canaan Police and OSHA, he said.
